Nancy O'Dell started her career in broadcasting as a reporter at WPDE-TV, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. She worked later as an anchor for morning news for WCBD TV and acted as a crime reporter. Her reporting of the ineffective responses of police officers in response to DUI incidents in Charleston caused an investigation being conducted by the State Law Enforcement Division, which resulted in a new directive from state authorities regarding DUI cases. The Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell her Best Report of the year Award to all South Carolina media. Following her work in Charleston O'Dell was a co-anchor and investigative reporter for the NBC Miami station WTVJ-TV prior to joining Access Hollywood as a weekend anchor as well as a weekday correspondent. O'Dell, as well as anchoring the main show for Access Hollywood, also appears on NBC News Today as well Dateline NBC. She has covered major events like The Oscars, The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Golden Globe Awards. As well as co-hosting the Pre Show Arrivals in preparation for The Emmys & The Golden Globes. Also, she co-hosted Miss America's Pageant as well as the Miss Universe Pageant.
